    How does a ph value affect hair?

    Damaged Hair = pH 7.0

    • If the hair is in an alkaline state (above pH 7)
    • The cuticle is raised and hair may be tangled and dull
    • The cortex may be exposed and hair may appear dry and damaged
    • The hair will not readily or evenly accept chemical treatments
    • An unhealthy pH level = unhealthy hair; tangled, dry, unmanageable and dull

    Healthy hair = pH 4.5 - 5.5

    • Normal, healthy hair will have a pH range between 4.5 - 5.5 and therefore, is considered acidic
    • When hair is in its correct pH range the cuticle is compact and closed
    • This protects the cortex layer, promotes shiny hair and a healthy overall condition
    • A healthy, closed cuticle ensures good hair strength and elasticity, providing a suitable base for chemical treatments
    • A healthy pH level = healthy hair; natural bounce, shine, vitality and radiant condition

    Easy identification of care level for each BC Hairtherapy product. Differentiation between Light Care to
    Concentrated Care based on:

    • concentration of care ingredients
    • function of specific ingredient for individual hair type
    • condition of hair

    e.g. BC Repair Rescue Treatment and BC Color Save Treatment may both have the same care level of 4 “intensive care”, but the specific ingredients have completely different functions and benefits for the defined hair type.
